Kapucijners are typically Dutch and have been eaten for centuries. It is a small dimpled legume. A capucijner is a pea and is very similar to the gray pea. Fresh kapucijners can only be found in the shop for a short time, especially in the months of June and July. Most kapucijners are dried and packaged after harvest to be traded.
Kapucijners have been served for centuries in combination with boiled potatoes with gravy. Nowadays the peas are also eaten with fried bacon and piccalilli or syrup. Savory also goes well with kapucijners.
